The young woman stares at you from her porch, holding up a creaking little lantern, with a rather dismal light flickering inside the glass. The two hounds at her feet have stopped snarling, and have begun slinking down the steps, their ears perked and eyes wide. She clears her throat, curling her fingers in her skirts and coughing. "Come in, come in! You'll freeze t' death out there, and I won't be dragging your icy corpses into my house! I'm sure I can fit you all into my kitchen... somehow..." Hallayn is a half-Elf, aged twenty-eight, and living on her own. She chose to live a mortal life, and hasn't exactly been farther than the Blue Mountains, though she has been to Rivendell once. She lives on a quiet farm - Raen Farm - just to the north of Bree, and provides an open door to any wayward traveler that comes to her doorstep. She has a fondness for other races, and loves to hear stories from their homelands.
Raen Farm —— located to the north of Bree. Has been owned by three generations of Hallayn’s family.
—— for map please click here.
Consists of 1 acre of personal land, fully paid for, with 10 acres of pasture land being leased from the Mr. and Mrs. Harlan of Combe. (Pay for leasing of one year of the 10 acres amounts to 1.5 lb weight in coin)
Current Stock Five cows Fourteen chickens (all hens) Two sheep, three goats Two hounds
Income Cow and Goat-based milk and cheese Eggs Wool Local game skins and meats (mainly birds and small animals) Studding her two hounds
But she does travel, and she's gone up into the Blue Mountains before. But that's as far as she's been, other than to Rivendell, and she rather enjoys her farm life. She's quite a friendly person, and can get along well with most. Her shipping is rather unimportant, but if she were to be romantically involved with someone, they'd probably be of another race, no matter the gender. She has lived near Bree for far too long, and been involved with dwarves and elves; her tastes are rather skewed.

Woohoo! Congratulations on your acceptance! I saw this character when the app first went up and loved her--she's so pretty, and she's got a personality of gold! (^-^) So I was thinking that Balin might have encountered Hallayn in the past. As he lived with the other dwarves in the Blue Mountains following their exile from Erebor, there is a good chance he may have seen her around at some point. I think her wisdom, good-nature, and remarkable open-mindedness would truly be golden to him. And as he is not particularly fond of elves (given their history with his people in particular), she would probably the one lovely exception. On that note, I was thinking that perhaps he could view her in the same way Gimli viewed Galadriel. (Hahaha, because Balin is just adorable, and I don't want to make him a creepy old man dwarf. ) So that being said, while I know it hardly sounds like a great adventure, perhaps they could be good friends, the kind of friends that can rely on each other for various things. And I'm sure some manner of adventure could come from all that! ^^ Again, welcome!

Aw, thank you so much! ;w; I must say - and this might sound a little fangirly, but - you are a wonderful writer! I was reading your thread with Bilbo, and it was positively amazing! I look forward to roleplaying with you! c: ♥
I definitely think that's possible; Hallayn's such a nosy little bugger, she'd probably go around, talking to every person she possibly could. I think they'd get along swimmingly - plus, she'd find him absolutely adorable, along the lines of a 'dwarfish grandfather', which I'm sure she wouldn't hesitate to call him should the subject ever arise, hehe!
And that's just asdfghj precious! I think that's absolutely wonderful xD I do hope that doesn't make me sound like I'm puffing this little derpy country bumpkin up, though. But just the thought makes me grin.
I wholeheartedly agree! I think any thread between the two would be an adventure in itself, especially involved in the mountains, with such hostility between dwarves and elf-folk (though Hallayn is oblivious to said matters). I think the two have quite the nice dynamic, and I would love to see it play out. c:
Thank you very, very much, my dear! ♥

Well gee...! f^^;; That is very very nice of you to say! I'm really flattered, thank you! Although you should reflect those same thoughts on your own writing--your application alone was so beautifully done! I can't wait to write with you and read your work~! ^^ The dwarfish grandfather comment made me chuckle, hahaha~ I do think it would be a lot of fun having even the casual posts with just chatting and things like that. And her personality sounds like it will make her so fun to write with! (I guess dwarves are pretty straightforward, too, haha! ^^ Anyway, I'm glad you like the idea~ I loved that segment with Gimli and Galadriel! Well no matter what we end up playing out, I will definitely have fun! Surely Hallayn will have met others of the dwarves living in the Blue Mountains, too, so it would be pretty cool if she somehow became a friendly figure to them. (Especially considering how otherwise closed-off their group is...O.O) Balin's usually rather secretive about things, but perhaps she would be the kind of figure he may or may not feel any qualms talking to. I like the dynamics, indeed~ ^^ If you want, maybe she can end up on part of the quest to Erebor in some way...? I think there will have to be an official thread for that soon, so you can probably weave her in! There are so many moments that don't get recounted in the books or the movies, so we can have fun for sure and be creative~ ^_^ In the meantime, I'd love to start a post with you~ And that was my exhausted brain talking. Time to get some sleep!

Wow, I absolutely love your attention to detail! Hallayn is my kind of girl, and certainly Casswyn's kind too. ^^ The pair share a farming background, though Casswyn now lives on the road. It could be that she has met Hallayn before, perhaps having visited the farm to buy produce or having sold Hallayn large game in the past (Casswyn wouldn't have resources to butcher, store and sell the meat of a buck, for example).
Alternatively, we can have them meet for the first time. Casswyn can go hunting in the woods north of Bree, lose track of time or become disorientated, and end up at Hallayn's farm after dark. Not an adventure in the grand sense but a nice way for them to meet, on Hallayn's home territory. It would be a trip down memory lane for Casswyn as well, to be staying on a farm again.
What are your thoughts, my dear? And welcome again to True LotR, we are so glad to have you. ^^
