He clutched his face in his bony hands, rocking back and forth on the bank of the still water, only disturbed by the occasional flick of a fish’s tail. Mutters, muffled by the surface of his pale hands, traveled senselessly from the creature’s mouth as each rock on his hunches threatened to hurtle him into either sanity or insanity. For the moment, sanity won over and the pale creature slowly lowered his bony hands from his face. He blinked, his large blue eyes scanning the cave.
The flick of a fish tail caught his attention and his eyes caught on that spot, studying it as the water rippled announcing the unsuspecting fish – Smeagol’s prey. His head cocked, his unblinking eyes staring into the water, his muscles coiling beneath his skin. “Arrh!” cried out Smeagol as he pushed himself off the bank, crashing into the water and grabbing for the fish, his hands striking the water over and over.
Smeagol’s eyes shone with triumph, as he pulled the fish from the water. He growled with it jumped from his hands, the slippery scales not catching in Smeagol’s wet palms. “Ahh!” frowned the gangly creature as the fish tried to get away. His bony hands clenched onto its tail and he slammed its head down onto a rock. “The rock and pool is nice and cool,” the pale creature began to sing, as he swayed, smacking the fish down onto the rocks again. “Our only wish,” another half-hearted smack, “is to catch a fish,” he smacked it harder but still it trashed slightly in his iron hold, “so juicy sweet!” When it still struggled, he did it again and again, the dull thud echoing throughout the cavern. “Soo juicy sweeeeett!!” Smeagol sang, feeling light-hearted and in a perfect mood.
Finally that danged fish stopped its struggling, but Smeagol gave its head once last smack to the rocks to make sure it was really dead. He crawled from the water, his lopsided teeth puncturing the scaly skin of the trout. Dripping wet, he hopped over to a large rock, settling down onto it and pulling the fish from his mouth, letting a chuck of flesh melt into his mouth, savoring the juicy insides of the dead water animal.
He ripped viciously into it, all savoring gone, chewing nosily, and causing blood to leak from the corner of his mouth and down his chin. He either didn’t notice or didn’t care as he continued to devour the raw fish. He tore off the head, crunching down into the fish’s thin skull and eating it whole. The head and skull he didn’t mind eating, the ribcage however was a different story. Smeagol didn’t enjoy getting continuously poked in the mouth by the sharp rib bones and stuck to tearing the meat from the bones.
Upon finishing his lunch, or perhaps it was his second breakfast – he couldn’t be sure, Smeagol threw the remnants of the trout over his shoulder carelessly, not even hearing the snap of the bones on the stone ground. He jumped down from the rock, landing on all fours and proceeding to wander back towards the water edge, lying in wait for his next unfortunate victim.
